What is Montessori?
• The Montessori Philosophy
The Montessori Philosophy is an overall program of growth and development. Striving for long-term results, we offer the child an opportunity to begin to develop to his or her potential.
Follow the Child Montessori School has a “prepared environment”. Careful selection of materials results in an environment at a child’s level to promote exploration and discovery. The teachers let the child feel the excitement of understanding a problem and conquering it. They guide the children in building their own self-image, confidence and independence.
The Montessori approach is an effective way to develop a child’s mind and inner resources. We believe in helping the child develop the great potential that they are born with.
• Montessori Education
Montessori education cultivates the child’s own natural desire to learn. Young children have a universal lifetime ability to absorb knowledge from their surroundings just by living. The child’s mind is at its peak receptivity during these early years. In order to be calm and happy, children need to explore and discover. The Montessori environment, both inside and outside, allows the child to move, touch, manipulate and explore. In this environment they learn to work independently, based on their own initiative, which builds concentration and self-discipline.
Follow the Child Montessori is a link to the child’s home environment and thus an extension of the child’s developmental process. The Montessori classroom is a “living room” for children. The Montessori environment respects and protects the child’s rhythm of life. It is a calm, ordered space constructed to meet children’s needs and match their scale of activity. Here the children experience a blend of freedom and discipline especially designed for their development.
